What is changing in the world of enclosures and why are we talking about the second generation of thermal management? In previous articles we introduced the concept of thermal management, i.e. the set of technologies that, by reading the data and controlling the individual devices inside the electrical panel, protect machines from the most critical environmental conditions. Today we see how these technologies have evolved, in revamping and edge conditions, to occupy the highest layers of corporate computerization.
The first generation of thermal management
Sensis by Fandis is the first device capable of controlling the actuators that regulate the climate control of an electrical cabinet, when necessary. To do this, it’s located in the two lower levels, field and control, of the traditional pyramid scheme of industrial computerization that you see in the image. The data are usable on the fieldbus, in interoperability with the other devices in the machine and made available at HMI-SCADA level. The entire thermal management is therefore handled independently from the control of the machine and the data is available for the upper level. Sensis is not only a sensor, but a complete controller, capable of activating the actuators and recording data from the devices in support of predictive maintenance.
The second generation of thermal management
From today the Sensis range has two new models which, in addition to interoperability with Profinet, and Ethernet/IP, simultaneously support the MQTT/OPCUA protocols. Welcome to the second generation of thermal management devices: in the smart industry paragigm the field level becomes usable directly from the pyramid’s business and manufacturing level, thanks to the cloud connection.
Indeed, with bi-directional access to data through the Ethernet network, important steps are taken in the approach to revamping installations and in the application of predictive maintenance. Independence from the components intended for the climate control process of the electrical panel simplifies the integration of the device on existing machines by acting directly. Direct access from the network allows connection to the device stack remotely, without adding dedicated gateways, passing through the SCADA level and intervening directly on the process software. The device is therefore able to send an email to the maintenance service in perfect autonomy when the correlation of the measured quantities leads to the deduction of an anomaly of the air conditioning system, so that it can intervene promptly, limiting damage and costs.
