Fandis has combined the performance of its range of DC roof exhaust units with the new functions of the IIoT Sensis control and regulation system: an innovative solution for thermal management of the electrical panel!
Sensis, in fact, has temperature sensors inside the enclosure to constantly monitor temperature, humidity, ventilation quality, and protocols for remote monitoring. Now, the Fandis thermal management device has an algorithm that controls variable speed fans functioning.
Variable speed ventilation for the electrical panel
The new algorithm integrates with the TP19UD24xx and TP19UD48xx range of direct current and variable speed roof exhaust units, respectively for 24Vdc and 48Vdc power supplies.
The ventilation system favors the exchange of air with the outside and uses its specific heat to keep the over temperature produced by the activities of the components under control. The flow rate of the ventilation system must be sized with respect to the working conditions reached at maximum activation, i.e. when all internal components work simultaneously.
However, in normal operation and in the overall life of the system, the maximum operating limits are reached only in a few cases and it’s on this reflection that the solution proposed by Fandis is based: adapting the speed of the fans on the instantaneous cooling needs.
The advantages of the new algorithm
The new algorithm implements constant monitoring of sensor data and adjusts fan speed accordingly, with an incremental PID-type mathematical model.
This system offers important advantages:
- Performance is optimized according to the specific needs of the electrical cabinet, ensuring adequate cooling with significant energy savings;
- The noise produced by the movement of the air, in common working conditions and far from the maximum speed, is significantly reduced;
- Centralized management in Sensis offers precise time synchronization between all thermal management parameters without resorting to complex configurations.
The first point, however, deserves further attention, in this article we have illustrate the system’s energy efficiency data, as measured in our laboratories.
