The European Union has taken another step towards environmental sustainability with the publication and entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2024/1834, which introduces stricter Ecodesign requirements for industrial fans with an electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW.
Compared with the previous Regulation (EU) No 327/2011, the main change is the adoption of a systemic approach: efficiency is assessed by considering the entire ventilation system, consisting of the electric motor, stator, impeller and any other significant component that contributes to the continuous conversion of electrical energy into air pressure and volumetric flow rate or that affects its efficiency.
For companies and designers, it is essential to keep three key dates in mind:
- 24 July 2026: the new requirements apply to all stand-alone fans and new models of integrated fans placed on the market for the first time.
- 24 July 2027: the transitional period ends for fans already integrated into other products (so-called embedded fans), which must comply with the new standards from this date.
- 24 July 2037: fans placed on the market as spare parts for products already installed may benefit from a specific exemption until this date, provided that they are clearly identified as such.
Focus on the circular economy and transparency
Regulation (EU) 2024/1834 does not only address energy efficiency, but also promotes the circular economy.
New obligations for manufacturers include:
- Availability of spare parts: spare parts must be made available for at least 10 years after the end of production of the model.
- Digital transparency: energy performance data must be stored digitally for a period of 20 years.
- Partial-load information: designers will have access to efficiency curves at different speeds to optimise system control and further reduce energy consumption.
Exemptions from the Regulation
Not all fans fall within the scope of the Regulation. Exemptions apply to applications intended for critical environments or characterised by specific technical conditions, including:
- fans intended to operate in potentially explosive atmospheres;
- fans for applications with a gas temperature above 100 °C or below −40 °C.
The impact of Regulation (EU) 2024/1834 on Fandis products
The parameter determining whether the Regulation applies is the electric input power at the best efficiency point, set between 125 W and 500 kW.
Based on this threshold, most Fandis solutions for electrical enclosures will remain outside the scope of the Regulation.
The fan filters and roof exhaust units of the T19, T22, TP19 and TP22 series will not be affected by the new provisions, as the integrated fans have an absorbed power at the best efficiency point below 125 W.
As a result, these product lines will not require any adjustments and will continue to ensure the usual operational continuity.
For all fans and products integrating fans manufactured by Fandis that fall within the scope of Regulation (EU) 2024/1834, the company has already defined a rigorous compliance and information transparency plan.
In accordance with the obligations set out by European legislation, which requires energy performance data to be made available for at least 20 years, Fandis will provide:

At the same time, the market is already evolving towards solutions that comply with the new requirements.
These include EC (Electronically Commutated) fans, which combine a brushless motor with integrated electronic control, offering high energy efficiency and precise control of operating speed.
