Energy efficiency, dynamic control and greater reliability: Fandis’ EC motors for industrial thermal management open new perspectives in electrical enclosure ventilation.
The evolution of EC motor fans
Fans equipped with EC (Electronically Commutated) motors represent a significant technological evolution compared to traditional fans with induction motors used for electrical enclosure ventilation.
In particular, EC solutions are gaining increasing traction in medium-high airflow segments (i.e., over 800–1000 m³/h), thanks to a winning combination of performance, efficiency, and flexibility of use.
What are the advantages of EC motors?
The first tangible benefit of EC motors is lower power consumption for the same pressure, a key factor in a context where energy efficiency has become a mandatory design requirement.
However, evaluating this technology based only on energy savings would be limiting: its full potential lies in its precise operational control and smart integration capabilities.
Unlike asynchronous motors, designed to operate at fixed speed and controllable only through external devices (often bulky, inefficient, and a source of electromagnetic interference), EC motors feature a built-in closed-loop electronic control. This enables dynamic adjustment of the rotational speed according to the actual thermal demand of the system.
Thanks to continuous feedback from temperature sensors, the EC motor can adapt its performance in real time, optimizing airflow, reducing energy consumption, preventing overheating, and reacting to alarm conditions.
How do they work?
At the heart of the regulation system is a microcontroller that controls power delivery to the poles of the brushless motor based on the rotor’s instantaneous position, detected via Hall sensors.
This architecture allows for continuous, stepless speed modulation and ensures a rapid response to environmental condition changes inside the enclosure.
The result is a constantly optimized airflow that improves the thermal balance and prevents overheating.
In addition, the ability to operate reliably even at low speeds reduces thermal and mechanical stress on components, helping to ensure quieter operation and a longer fan lifespan.
Fandis roof exhaust units with EC motors
Fandis has embraced this technological evolution, implementing it in its range of roof exhaust units for electrical enclosures, in combination with intelligent temperature controllers and advanced control systems. This integration had already achieved excellent results with DC motors. Now the result is an even more complete, integrated and automated range of products, with built-in predictive maintenance capabilities, easy installation, and full exploitation of the benefits of EC technology.
With over forty years of experience in thermal management, Fandis continues to refine solutions that combine high performance and energy savings.
The adoption of EC technology is not just a technological upgrade—it is a strategic choice to improve plant efficiency and sustainability, while enhancing operational safety in an industry where reliability is always essential.
