ETIM (Elektro Technisches Informations Modell) is a uniform classification model and an unequivocal products grouping for the world of electrical material distribution. This standard allows a univocal technical description of electrical products and their assignment to a specific product class.
ElectroCod by METEL
METEL was founded in Italy in 1993 by the three associations that make up the electrical material chain (ANIE, FME and ARAME) in order to create a standard for the exchange of documents belonging to the electrical material order cycles, through the use of known technologies such as EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).
In fact, manufacturers, wholesalers and agents saw many strategic possibilities in standardizing the flow of data and the exchange of information of the same article. METEL thus developed ElectroCod, the classification system adopted by the Italian market, and, in 2015, METEL collaborated with ETIM International to align ElectroCod with their standards to make it easier for manufacturers to share their marketing content across Europe, as well as the use of a centrally administered database for all available products. The long-term goal is to ensure that the ETIM model becomes the one most used by companies in the sector.
How does ETIM work?
ETIM is a parametric classification system: a class is associated with each product and a defined number of article characteristics is associated with each class. Thanks to a web tool (ETIM METEL), provided by METEL, it is possible to expand the technical characteristics of each product and the information in the BMEcat standard required by the foreign world of distribution or in the ECP layout of the METEL technical characteristics or in other formats required by the market.
Manufacturers who already use BMEcat as an exchange format for ETIM characteristics can import this data into the MDP (METEL Data Pool) and enrich their METEL price list with a series of useful information.
Distributors authorized by manufacturers will therefore be able to access and download the METEL tracks provided by the manufacturers, and containing the ETIM characteristics.
ETIM METEL and Fandis
At Fandis we have already adopted the ETIM METEL coding system, generating our price lists according to the most recognized international standards, dematerializing documents and processes. In fact, our goal has always been to align ourselves with the expectations of distribution, by digitizing the system of price lists and product codes, thanks to the generation of the BMECat-ETIM6 track, which proves to be an essential tool for an increasingly digital vision of the market.
