In a global context increasingly focused on sustainability and social responsibility, the term ESG — Environmental, Social and Governance — has become a key reference for companies aiming to grow ethically and sustainably. For Fandis, adopting an ESG strategy means not only keeping pace with the times, but actively contributing to building a better, fairer, and more sustainable future.
What ESG means for Fandis
Talking about ESG means acting with awareness, knowing that every business decision has an impact — not only on performance, but also on people, communities, and the environment. That’s why we chose to structure our ESG commitment within a concrete, measurable strategy, with clear goals aligned to the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The 2030 Agenda and our commitment to the SDGs
The 2030 Agenda is a global action plan signed by 193 UN member states. It identifies 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. Each company is called upon to do its part by identifying which goals to focus on and how to act.
With the support of Confindustria Novara Vercelli Valsesia, Fandis carried out a self-assessment to analyze its sustainability profile and define the most relevant SDGs for our business, with the aim of building a consistent ESG path geared toward continuous improvement.
ESG – Environment: acting for the Planet
The first pillar of our analysis is environmental sustainability. We continuously monitor our energy consumption across production and operations, and we assess our environmental impact by calculating greenhouse gas emissions in CO₂eq (Scope 1 and Scope 2). This serves as our starting point to define a concrete strategy focused on reducing the impact of our activities.
Our priority SDGs in this area:
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
- SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 15 – Life on Land
2025 Roadmap – Environmental goals and actions:
- Reducing CO₂ emissions through building insulation upgrades, replacing systems with high-efficiency solutions, and installing photovoltaic panels.
- Increasing the share of renewable energy and optimizing consumption with LED lighting and smart systems.
- Protecting biodiversity by entrusting green space management to an agronomist to safeguard local ecosystems.
ESG – Social: People, Communities, and Well-being
The second pillar addresses social sustainability. At Fandis, people are at the center: we promote well-being, inclusion, and community connections. Among the initiatives we care most about are our partnerships with local organizations like Amicigio, Baskin Castelletto Ticino, and La Fabbrichetta di Arona, as well as our support for fundraising efforts for Dynamo Camp. Internally, we promote policies focused on employee welfare, work-life balance, mental and physical well-being, and continuous training and development.
Our priority SDGs in this area:
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being
- SDG 4 – Quality Education
2025 Roadmap – Social goals and actions:
- Ensuring safe work environments through appropriate measures, regular equipment maintenance, and ongoing staff training, promoting a shared culture of safety.
- Implementing wellbeing initiatives, including benefits and programs that support health and personal time.
- Regularly monitoring the company climate to foster a positive and motivating work environment.
- Organizing staff training and development programs based on individual skills assessments and planning.
ESG – Governance: transparency and accountability
The third area focuses on how Fandis makes decisions and manages relationships with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders. Ethics, transparency, and integrity are our guiding values.
Our priority SDGs in this area:
- SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
2025 Roadmap – Governance goals and actions:
- Strengthening responsible governance through the creation of an ESG committee and appointment of a sustainability manager.
- Promoting ethical supply chain practices by integrating ESG criteria into supplier evaluations.
- Transparent reporting of performance and achievement of an ESG rating.
